like a box of chocolates...

...only better, because this one is not going to give me a migraine! While I was out and about this morning, waiting for a violin repair, I found an antique shop I've never been in before...I found this great jewelry box lined in pink velvet and satin, which I could never pass up and while I was paying for it I noticed a big baggie of buttons - the bag was really grungy, I could hardly see through it, but it was a cheap bag of buttons, so I added it to my purchase. When I got home, I dumped out the buttons and as I sorted through them, I got pretty excited, this was a really great bag of buttons. Lots of mother of pearl (my favorite) and some cool white ones and some nifty milky glass ones and a few really awesome metal ones... And the moral of this story, never pass up a dirty old bag of buttons.

lace and babies and pretty, shiny stuff...

...today I am working on some garters, with some really beautiful lace that I got here.

...and making a book out of this adorable cabinet card that I got here.

...playing with my birdcage. The old photo is my grandmother and her brother.

...loving this necklace that I recently listed in my etsy shop.

...hanging this "jewelry collage" in my studio. I found this old frame in my cellar, removed the glass, covered a piece of cardboard in quilt batting and linen, and then pinned on all of my favorite pieces of costume jewelry. So much cooler than storing them in a box somewhere, don't you think?

an apple a day...

A couple of posts back, I talked about missing New York State apples. Well, my mother-in-law, Eileen really came through for me and today I am enjoying some "apple love" sent straight from the orchards of Beak and Skiff in Central New York. And while I looked at these beautiful apples, I was flooded with memories of our yearly trips to the orchard. I dug out some old apple picking pictures from 2001 and I am amazed at how small and cute my kids were. So, while I enjoy these apples, I will be reminiscing about days past and who knows, maybe one of my big kids will help me make pie. Thank you so much Eileen!

sewing up some pretties...

Thought I would show you what I have been up to this week. I've been sewing up some pretty things for a new lingerie shop opening up near my home. The slippers are so cute. They are from a pattern given to me by the shop owner. I will be sewing these in different fabrics and sizes. The garters are my own design. These are the first few sets (one to keep and one to throw) that I made. I am now working on some singles. The shop is called Boudoir. It is decorated beautifully and filled with gorgeous lingerie, pajamas, garters and soon - slippers. If you are in the Lynchburg area, it's in the Boonsboro Plaza. Check it out.
