Field Trip

Went on a field trip today with my son and his third grade class to the National D-Day Memorial in Bedford, VA. It was a beautiful day, as you can see in the first photo. The kids really surprised me with their knowledge of D-Day. I don't think I knew that much when I was eight. It was such a powerful display. I learned so much. The last picture is my guy, looking down from the arch.

Leaves

As I took my daily walk this morning, I couldn't believe how many leaves have fallen in the last few days. Fall has really arrived. I took a quick shot of my backyard for you (it's kind of dreary today). So many trees, so many leaves... I told my kids I would pay them to rake this year - they seemed very excited. I'm hoping they stay excited after raking the first gazillion or so. We have enough to keep us busy until December. But really, I do love fall. Crisp, sunny days, a smoky smell in the air, delicious apples and yes, the leaves. The last photo is a picture of some pumpkins I've made and listed in my etsy shop. Feel like decorating?

Feelin' Kind of Purpley

A couple of journal pages I am working on today. A quiet day here. For now.

Buttons

Trying to find the perfect buttons for a journal I am working on. This is my favorite box of buttons - a lot of mother of pearl and mostly old. A couple of years ago, my sister and I went through my mom's button box and I picked out all the white and pearl ones and anything with some sparkle.
Did your mom have a button box when you were young? I still remember playing with the "button box". I loved to sort them by color or type. I still love buttons and I like to use them in my art, but sometimes I can't part with the old ones, because it feels like I am giving away a piece of my childhood.

Boo!

A few days ago, my 8 year old reminded me that it is almost halloween and we hadn't decorated yet. So this weekend, we did some decorating around the house...
Halloween is fun, but for me, it was always all about the candy. I won't be eating any chocolate this year, because I found out that it was causing me to have migraines. It has not been easy giving up my favorite food, but I try not to keep any in the house and that helps. I'm not sure how I'm going to manage being surrounded by buckets (and I mean buckets - where we live, people are really generous with the halloween candy!) of all my favorite yummies. I may have to have the kids lock it up when they go to school (and take the key with them).

Stella

My etsy shop is ready! I only have three items listed, but hey, it's a start. I will be adding a few more items over the next few days. I am sooooooo slow at all this computer stuff, but I have learned so much over the last few weeks (who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks).
It is such a beautiful day here. The sun is shining, the air is warm, the deer are munching acorns... I hope it is a beautiful day wherever you are too.

Lovey-Dovey

Do you like my monster? I made this for my daughter recently. I am working on my etsy shop and as soon as it's ready I'll let you know. Maybe you would like a monster of your own.

Journal Pages

I just started an online class with Kelly Kilmer called A Prompt A Day. Here are the journal pages I have done so far. I haven't written anything so far. That's always the hard part for me. I have several art journals, but not much writing in any of them. I'm hoping to get over the "fear of writing" with this class.
